Joan's Yellow Rice

1 cup washed and rinsed basmati rice
or regular white long grain rice
2 1/2 cups water ( or chicken broth )
1 bay leaf
1 garlic clove smashed
1 tsp. tumeric powder
salt and pepper to taste
boullion cube if not using broth
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Place rice in saucepot. Add water or enough water to cover rice 2 1/2 inches over top of rice. Add remainders except raisins and nuts. Bring to boil. Cover and lower heat to simmer. Cook until rice has absorbed the liquid. Remove pot from heat and let stand covered another 5 minutes. Stir in rice and nuts with fork. Let stand covered another five minutes. Fluff with fork and serve. Serves 4 to 6.
